The Big Quiet – A Meditation in Central Park

June 20 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm - Free

Quiet. In New York City, it’s the one thing even money can’t buy. SummerStage and Medi Club invite you to join in on Saturday, June 20th as New Yorkers from all five boroughs converge for the first Big Quiet: a twenty-minute, practice-agnostic moment of mass meditation and calm for all ages and experience levels.
We will ask you to do your part toward keeping the peace by muting your cell phone, turning off your screens and music, standing or sitting in stillness and savoring a stadium of silent community in the heart of Central Park. Simple meditation tips will be provided for first timers but participants are strongly encouraged to engage whichever way feels most natural. Admission is free and bleacher seats are available but you are welcome to bring your own mat to sit on. Please arrive at 5:00 pm sharp to set up, get comfortable and prepare for a weekend memory you won’t soon forget.

AJ Calloway's Stress Relief Tips At ABFF [VIDEO]

AJ Calloway (Extra) hosted American Black Film Festival's (ABFF) HBO Short Film Competition on June 20, 2013 at the Colony Theatre in Miami, Florida.  ABFF is a five day retreat dedicated to strengthening the Black filmmaking community.

AJ has a busy schedule and a new wife with a baby on the way.  In addition to checking out the nervous competitors' films, I had the opportunity to ask AJ how he manages stress. He shares his tips for what he does for stress relief and his experience with Yoga in the video below.

HBO's prestigious award has been part of the ABFF's competitive film program since it was established in 1998 to honor the writing and directing talents of emerging Black filmmakers. A special screening will showcase the five films selected for the final round of competition: The Adventures of Edson Jean, written/directed by Edson Jean; Black Girl in Paris, written/directed by Kiandra Parks; A Different Tree, directed by Steven Caple, Jr.; Stone Cars, written/directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green and Sweet Honey Child, directed by Talibah Newman, co-written by Newman and Amanda Brennan. The grand prize winner, who will be awarded $10,000, will be announced during the ABFF's Awards presentation on closing night, on Sunday, June 23, 2013.
