Soul Gazing: Tantra Eye Contact Ritual [VIDEO]

The Soul Gazing exercise in Tantra is a method of communicating with your lover that is completely nonverbal.  As such, it may open new doors to intimacy in your relationship that were previously unexplored.  Use this exercise to communicate on a deeper level with your partner, and to awaken new lines of exchange.  Soul Gazing harmonizes the energy of both partners, creating an open heart space where deeper intimacy may be achieved.

What is tantric sex?

In Tantric sex the point of sex is not orgasm, the point is to feel. There is no clear cut beginning, middle, or end. Most of the exercises related to Tantric sex involve slowing things down, trying not to focus on our external body, or orgasm, or anything outside of our experience of the moment.

Without a focus on orgasm, the goal becomes increased awareness leading to greater understanding of ourselves, which eventually leads to enlightenment. There is no pressure to "get over the top". This doesn't mean that orgasm doesn't exist in Tantra, it just isn't the be all and end all. The spiritual practice and the good sexual feelings are inter-related, each leading back to, and improving the other.

Yes, Yoga Has Curves 21 Day Instagram Challenge

Yoga is a transformational art designed to bring our mind, body and spirit back into balance. It helps us to appreciate who we are and love the skin that we are in. Yes, Yoga Has Curves has been a dream of author Dana Smith aka “The Yoga Diva” for many years and thanks to friend and photographer Wanakhavi Wakhisi her dream has become reality.

Her practice began when she was in her final trimester of pregnancy and was key in helping her adjust to new motherhood and everyday stresses of life. She learned how to work with her curves and has been teaching to yogis of all body types for over 10 years.

In popular media only one type of yoga body is highlighted and there is little representation for fuller bodied women. Because of this, many women don’t think they have the “yoga body” and hesitate exploring yoga, even though it has countless benefits.

This book serves as a testament that yoga is for EVERYbody and that no one physical size is better suited for practice. It will celebrate beautiful goddesses of all curvy shapes and sizes and finally allow the beauty of our curves to be recognized in this blessed art called yoga.

The true essence of yoga is what you do from your heart, not what you do with your body.

Yoga Flava on Instagram is participating in the 21 day #yesyogahascurves IG challenge!

Be inspired by Dana Smith's latest Curvy Yogini Spotlight with Dianne Bondy!

I have the opportunity to provide Yoga teacher training for Aubry Bright. Aubry is currently the Recreational Director for NYC Department of Parks and Recreation.  Starting in the Fall she will be the Personal Trainer at Le Soleil d'Or . Golden Sun - Cayman Luxury Rentals.

Due to the fact that I have a limited amount of time with Aubry, I meditated on what would be the most important tools that I can share.

Most people when they go on vacation want to relax and renew.  I wanted to compliment Aubry's solid background in physical fitness with the aspects that make Yoga special which is help with relieving stress, specifically guided relaxation and meditation.

The reference material is of course the DVD Yoga Flava For Relaxation Volume 1 and the Audio CD Exhale With Robin Downes

5 Tips To Spring Into Summer With Yoga!

I confess I need a little more Spring in my step as I make plans to - Spring in Summer 2014 with Yoga Flava.

Here are 5 tips to help keep you motivated as we prepare our mind, body and spirits for the remainder of Spring, moving into Summer.

1.  Easy does it - Have a taste.

My Yoga Flava YouTube videos offers you the opportunity to observe and learn;  anatomically-correct descriptions of each pose, guided meditation, interviews and news.

2. Find a Yoga Flava Playa

Everything is better when you have someone to share it with! Convince a friend at your same experience level to attend some classes with you. This will allow you to let your guard down and enjoy the experience a little more.  Find out more about my private and / or couples session in-person or online.

4. Do What You Can

Come to your mat each time with an open mind and a compassionate heart, and you will be surprised at how much easier the poses will come to you!

Lots of students give up their practice when they cannot conquer Crow pose after only two weeks. Understand that when you enter the world of yoga, all the rules about competitiveness, comparison, and deadlines that we are raised with go out the window.

5. Pace yourself and enjoy the journey

Yoga is about simply enjoying the journey. Your journey. Not the journey of the person on the mat next to you. Your uniquely beautiful journey.

Yoga of Success: Message, Marketing, and Money

At the recent Yoga Journal LIVE New York 2014 event, I had the honor to take a session entitled "Yoga of Success: Message, Marketing, and Money" with instructors Sadie Nardini and Tyler McCoy.  I originally came to Yoga because of stress, and then I looked around and realized a lot of people are suffering and I wanted to share the tools I learned.  I came to Yoga from a very pure place and now sustain myself with it as a business.

The lecture with Sadie and Tyler provided tips, tools, and secrets from these skyrocketing yoga professionals.

Here is the ten-step map that you can use to clarify, then live your dreams. Reap the benefits, financial and otherwise, from getting to the core of who you are, and how to express that into the world:

1).  Dissolve your abundance resistance.
2).  Add value and the money will follow
3).  Brand your weird
4).  Get clear - Let people know about your value - What they will get and how they will feel.
5).  Make relationships, not business transactions.
6).  Do it yourself
7).  Get Socially Smart
8).  Get organized, build a team
9).  Get passive
10). Money loves structure and freedom.

This is just a sampling of the steps that were mentioned.  To learn more please check out Sadie Nardini and Tyler McCoy

Yoga for Empaths: Creating Effective Boundaries

At the recent Yoga Journal LIVE New York 2014 event, I had the honor to take a session entitled "Yoga For Empaths" with instructor Bo Forbes.   I originally came to Yoga because of stress, sometimes not just my stress... I was also empathic to the stress of those around me... which makes me an "empath".

Empaths--extremely empathic people--make wonderful teachers, healers, and therapists. Being an empath, however, can be hazardous to our health: empaths absorb others' emotions, get sick more easily, and are more vulnerable to emotional contagion than people who are not empaths.

Related Article: Yoga For Grief

I enjoyed the session very much, it was such a reminder to the subtle conscious energy needed to solidify boundaries, regulate our nervous system, and promote physical, mental, and emotional health. Bo shares more insights through her article I Feel Your Pain: An Empath’s Guide to Staying Balanced.

Are you an empath? Here are five signs that you might be—and that your wonderful qualities, when left unchecked, can compromise your health.

THE EMPATH CHECKLIST:
1. You struggle with boundaries. It’s tough to know where you leave off and others begin, which experiences are yours and which come from others, when to open your channels for connection or to close them.
2. You’re often not in your body. For empaths, all that “feeling into” the experiences of others means that you dissociate: you leave your body or “shuttle” out of direct experience as a matter of course.
3. You’re vulnerable to emotional contagion. You absorb the emotions of others, from your boss and colleagues at work to your family and friends, and even the check-out guy at Whole Foods.
4. You’re prone to nervous system overdrive. It doesn’t take much—sometimes just a draining conversation or a party that’s loud and over-populated—to propel your nervous system into alarm mode.
5. You have trouble with intimacy. Your relationships are filled with intense bonding and equally intense separations. You can merge with others at the drop of a hat, but get so entangled that an “emotional exorcism” of someone you care about is often the only way to get your space.

If the answer is yes, it’s highly likely that you’re an empath. (READ MORE)

Yoga: Top 10 Benefits [VIDEO]

The popularity of Yoga has created an industry that is being valued at 27 billion dollars.  Yoga studios are popping up all over, yoga gear, books, TV and Radio Shows, DVDs and CDs are just a few of the products fueling the industry.  Why is yoga so popular? Here, we look at the top 10 benefits of regular yoga practice.

1. Stress relief.  My personal reason for starting the practice, I desperately needed the tools to cope.  A few minutes of yoga during the day can be a great way to get rid of stress that accumulates daily - in both the body and mind. Yoga postures, pranayama and meditation are effective techniques to release stress.

2. All-round fitness. You are truly healthy when you are not just physically fit but also mentally and emotionally balanced.

3. Weight loss. What many want! Yoga benefits here too. Sun Salutations and Kapal Bhati pranayama are some ways to help lose weight with yoga. Moreover, with regular practice of yoga, we tend to become more sensitive to the kind of food our body asks for and when. This can also help keep a check on weight.

4. Inner peace. We all love to visit peaceful, serene spots, rich in natural beauty. Little do we realize that peace can be found right within us and we can take a mini-vacation to experience this any time of the day!

5. Improved immunity. Our system is a seamless blend of the body, mind and spirit. An irregularity in the body affects the mind and similarly unpleasantness or restlessness in the mind can manifest as an ailment in the body. Yoga poses massage organs and stregthen muscles; breathing techniques and meditation release stress and improve immunity.

6. Living with greater awareness. The mind is constantly involved in activity – swinging from the past to the future – but never staying in the present. By simply being aware of this tendency of the mind, we can actually save ourselves from getting stressed or worked up and relax the mind. Yoga and pranayama help create that awareness and bring the mind back to the present moment, where it can stay happy and focused.

7. Better relationships. Yoga can even help improve your relationship with your spouse, parents, friends or loved ones! A mind that is relaxed, happy and contented is better able to deal with sensitive relationship matters. Yoga and meditation work on keeping the mind happy and peaceful; benefit from the strengthened special bond you share with people close to you.

8. Increased energy. Do you feel completely drained out by the end of the day? Shuttling between multiple tasks through the day can sometimes be quite exhausting. A few minutes of yoga everyday provides the secret to feeling fresh and energetic even after a long day. A 10-minute online guided meditation benefits you immensely, leaving you refreshed and recharged in the middle of a hectic day.

9. Better flexibility & posture. You only need to include yoga in your daily routine to benefit from a body that is strong, supple and flexible. Regular yoga practice stretches and tones the body muscles and also makes them strong. It also helps improve your body posture when you stand, sit, sleep or walk. This would, in turn, help relieve you of body pain due to incorrect posture.

10. Better intuition. Yoga and meditation have the power to improve your intuitive ability so that you effortlessly realize what needs to be done, when and how, to yield positive results. It works. You only need to experience it yourself.

Remember, yoga is a continuous process. So keep practicing! The deeper you move into your yoga practice, the more profound are its benefits.

The Self Empowerment Of Your Affirmations

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become.” ~Buddha

According to Wikapedia - Affirmations in New Thought and New Age terminology refers primarily to the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment—fostering a belief that "a positive mental attitude supported by affirmations will achieve success in anything."  More specifically, an affirmation is a carefully formatted statement that should be repeated to one's self and written down frequently. For an affirmation to be effective, it needs to be present tense, positive, personal and specific.

When I began my Yoga practice in 1995, I immediately noticed the great relief I felt from the movement of my physical practice.  My meditation practice also helped to ease the chatter that had been programed into me by my environment.  Affirmations help me to reprogram, each day I seek to find the words to feed my mind and spirit to consciously move my life in the direction that I desire.

Related Post: Affirmation For Today: "I visualize and create marvels in my life."

Each morning the first thing I do to set the tone for my day is read and view videos for inspiration. Recently I started creating affirmations starting with "I AM."  Starting an affirmation with "I AM" brings the thought energy directly to me about me. I have been posting my affirmations daily on my Facebook page and they have been receiving the most likes.  I will be writing more on this subject.... until then.... Today's Affirmation - Note To Self: "I Am Enough."

Yoga For Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD)

How is it going for you this winter?  If you are on the east coast you most likely are a winter warrior, figuring out your Winter Wellness Plan.  It has been no joke - truly a challenging winter wonderland outside!  For most of us it really has an affect on our mind, body and spirit and can result in "Seasonal Affective Disorder" (SAD).

I confess that under the covers has become more appealing than getting on my Yoga Mat.  With Spring starting next Month (Thursday, March 20, 2014) let's get ready to spring it on!

Yoga is not a cure for SAD, which is a medical and chemical condition, but it can alleviate many of the physical and mental symptoms, making seasonal depression more manageable. Proper breathing (pranayama) followed by restorative postures may help people with SAD. Yoga helps you to be positive and motivated during winter. It increases your energy levels, releases endorphins and serotonin, and can decrease melatonin (which causes tiredness and mental sluggishness). Yoga eases sleeping problems, stress, anxiety and depression, as it incorporates the main drug-free treatments for these – exercise, deep breathing and relaxation techniques.

Yoga is good for both the mind and the body, being a holistic approach to SAD, anxiety or depression. It involves no drugs or medicines, and yogis can feel the physical and mental impact of yoga after just one class. Check out this episode of Yoga Flava TV and SUBSCRIBE:
