Yoga Journal and Gaia recently invited me to celebrate the launch of the Live Be Yoga Tour 2016 #LiveBeYoga.

The launch took place at the Yoga Journal Live event that recently took place in NYC at the Hilton Hotel #YJLIVE #NYC .  This event continues to grow as an excellent Yogi reunion and platform for continued education.
We sipped on organic wine from Natura and enjoyed other samplings in the Yoga marketplace.

Dharma Mittra 'Sacred Techniques for Awakening' : Recap 2015 Yoga Journal Live NYC

To attend Dharma Mittra's 'Sacred Tecniques for Awakening' at Yoga Journal Live Conference NYC was to experience darshan.   Darshan, ( Sanskrit: “auspicious viewing”) , also spelled darshana,  in Hindu worship, the beholding of a deity (especially in image form), revered person, or sacred object.

The wisdom that this Yoga master exudes from his 70 plus years on the planet was so revered by me.  Being in the presence of what totally feels light hearted authentic teaching with an emphasis on spirituality and compassion. He adjusted me deeper into my twists and magically into smooth head stands.

It is my greatest joy to share with the students this knowledge that I have acquired over the past 50 years of practice and study. Dharma Yoga will give one’s body the power and strength to have resistance to common illnesses and diseases. With proper encouragement and increased faith in the teacher, one can improve his physical body and mental attitude rapidly, thereby igniting the higher motives of making one’s self useful to himself and all mankind. (Sri Dharma Mittra)

Sean Corn 'Spirit Speak': Recap 2015 Yoga Journal Live NYC

On Friday, April 24, 2015 I had the pleasure of attending Seane Corn's Full Day Workshop at the Yoga Journal Live Conference In New York City.

Ms. Corn's session was entitled "Spirit Speak" Finding your unique voice as a teacher.  This was perfect for me being an existing Yoga teacher.  She got us right into an asana practice for the 1st part of the day.  For me the session was challenging and invigorating.  The second half of the day was filled with thought provoking discussion.

One point she kept emphasizing was that "Yoga Teachers are so filled with Yoga that it overflows."  She shared her stories about despite the fact she was a strong and flexible Yogini she had to build her communications skills and confidence to teach.  Her style is to be amongst her students, allowing the magic to happen while sifting the energy. Additionally, Ms. Corn expressed that "Yoga is a healing Art. Inspired by whatever moves the individual teacher to be a bridge for the student."

#YJLIVE

Sean Corn shared the following prayer:
Calling in the God of your understanding... be it higher power, the creative consciousness, mother earth or the holy mother herself.  May this practice be a opportunity for healing and transformation to our mind, body and spirit.  May I step into the sacred world behind my eyes and letting go of human interpretation.  May I embody divine perception which is infinite and limitless.  May this practice be blessed and may the energy that is cultivated in all of our hearts be offered outward in prayer for equality, freedom shifts and peace for all.

Yoga of Success: Message, Marketing, and Money

At the recent Yoga Journal LIVE New York 2014 event, I had the honor to take a session entitled "Yoga of Success: Message, Marketing, and Money" with instructors Sadie Nardini and Tyler McCoy.  I originally came to Yoga because of stress, and then I looked around and realized a lot of people are suffering and I wanted to share the tools I learned.  I came to Yoga from a very pure place and now sustain myself with it as a business.

The lecture with Sadie and Tyler provided tips, tools, and secrets from these skyrocketing yoga professionals.

Here is the ten-step map that you can use to clarify, then live your dreams. Reap the benefits, financial and otherwise, from getting to the core of who you are, and how to express that into the world:

1).  Dissolve your abundance resistance.
2).  Add value and the money will follow
3).  Brand your weird
4).  Get clear - Let people know about your value - What they will get and how they will feel.
5).  Make relationships, not business transactions.
6).  Do it yourself
7).  Get Socially Smart
8).  Get organized, build a team
9).  Get passive
10). Money loves structure and freedom.

This is just a sampling of the steps that were mentioned.  To learn more please check out Sadie Nardini and Tyler McCoy

Yoga for Empaths: Creating Effective Boundaries

At the recent Yoga Journal LIVE New York 2014 event, I had the honor to take a session entitled "Yoga For Empaths" with instructor Bo Forbes.   I originally came to Yoga because of stress, sometimes not just my stress... I was also empathic to the stress of those around me... which makes me an "empath".

Empaths--extremely empathic people--make wonderful teachers, healers, and therapists. Being an empath, however, can be hazardous to our health: empaths absorb others' emotions, get sick more easily, and are more vulnerable to emotional contagion than people who are not empaths.

I enjoyed the session very much, it was such a reminder to the subtle conscious energy needed to solidify boundaries, regulate our nervous system, and promote physical, mental, and emotional health. Bo shares more insights through her article I Feel Your Pain: An Empath’s Guide to Staying Balanced.

Are you an empath? Here are five signs that you might be—and that your wonderful qualities, when left unchecked, can compromise your health.

THE EMPATH CHECKLIST:
1. You struggle with boundaries. It’s tough to know where you leave off and others begin, which experiences are yours and which come from others, when to open your channels for connection or to close them.
2. You’re often not in your body. For empaths, all that “feeling into” the experiences of others means that you dissociate: you leave your body or “shuttle” out of direct experience as a matter of course.
3. You’re vulnerable to emotional contagion. You absorb the emotions of others, from your boss and colleagues at work to your family and friends, and even the check-out guy at Whole Foods.
4. You’re prone to nervous system overdrive. It doesn’t take much—sometimes just a draining conversation or a party that’s loud and over-populated—to propel your nervous system into alarm mode.
5. You have trouble with intimacy. Your relationships are filled with intense bonding and equally intense separations. You can merge with others at the drop of a hat, but get so entangled that an “emotional exorcism” of someone you care about is often the only way to get your space.

If the answer is yes, it’s highly likely that you’re an empath. (READ MORE)

Pure Yoga Review by Aisha Brown

For the past three days, Robin and I took advantage of a free pass from the New York City Yoga Journal Conference and attended classes at Pure Yoga, located at 86th Street on the Upper East Side. We were greeted by Brittany Butcher, Membership Advisor, who took us on a guided tour of this fabulous upscale facility.

The first class, which was Jivamukti style, was taught by Alanna Kaivalya (who was also at Yoga Journal Conference and Solstice in Times Square). This was my second class with Alanna, and I was not disappointed. The poses, while not punishing, were certainly challenging. Robin agreed with me, although she is an advanced practitioner and teacher, while I am a relative beginner. While we were in Shivasana (Corpse Pose), Alanna serenaded us with a lovely rendition of "I'll Be There." Her musical talents add a unique approach to teaching.

Afterwards, we headed to the changing facilities to freshen up. Believe it or not, this was a major highlight of the whole experience! This "locker room" is more reminiscent of a spa. The spacious room is divided into a locker area, showers and bathrooms. The pristine showers (which are large enough to fit several people) each contain shampoo, conditioner, body wash and shaving cream. Plush towels are readily available. Each sink has bottles of hairspray, gel, mouthwash, razors and even a blow dryer. The setup is obviously geared towards helping busy New Yorkers make themselves presentable and hurry along to their next appointment.

The other two classes that we took (Slow Yoga)one on Wednesday at 6:30pm and one on Thursday at 5:00pm were also simple enough for beginners, yet challenging enough for intermediate to advanced levels. Our friend Ardie Hollander of Brand Marketers joined us on Thursday.

The amazing thing about Pure Yoga is that the prices are actually reasonable (as far as Manhattan yoga studios go). A year long membership average out to $17 per class, while drop-ins cost $30.

This is one studio I will be keeping my eye on!
