Journal Your Summer Memories Gratefully [VIDEO]

Gratitude or Happiness Journals can retrain your mind to focus on the positive.  Put a new spin on the gratitude journal and spend 20 to 30 minutes (or longer, if you like) writing about each of your top 10 favorite memories from summer.
The act of writing accesses your left brain, which is analytical and rational. While your left brain is occupied, your right brain is free to create, intuit, and feel. Journaling about positive memories from your summer can evoke a state of mindfulness as you close the chapter on summer and focus on the present.

Caregiving - Yoga Flava Style | Self Care First

Photo taken early 1970's me (Robin Downes) and my Dad (Bill Downes)
The best advice I have received once I let people know that I needed to increase my role as caregiver for my Dad, was to make sure to take care of myself and to get as much help as I can.

Self Care First !

Never give from the depths of your well but from the overflow - Sufi

Put your own oxygen mask on first.

It has been delightful to utilize the tools I created (videos) to help me cope with stress.  I hope you still find them useful too.  Who else is a caregiver? Leave a comment below, on my FB page or email me robin@yogaflava.com  As always, sending positive vibes, Robin

Self Care Morning Routine: Wake - Weight? - Hydrate - Meditate - Create

For my Spring Into Summer Slim Down program - Schedule time in the morning for your self care morning routine.  First thing to do when you wake up is to weigh in.  I sincerely feel that getting into to the habit of weighing yourself daily when you are focusing on losing weight is important.  I love utilizing the weight tracker at http://www.everydayhealth.com/profile/YogaFlava

Then hydrate with water.  Stay hydrated by drinking water at least 30 minutes before you begin an intense physical portion of your yoga practice. This gives your body time to absorb the water and properly hydrate and cleanse your body.

This is a great time to do some slow stretches and meditate to then create your intentions for the day.  Visualize the body you want to create. Let me know what works for your self care in the morning.

I will be attending the first morning session to bring in the Summer Solstice in Times Square. Space is filling up fast, let me know if you can join me: http://www.timessquarenyc.org/events/solstice-in-times-square/index.aspx
